In accordance with Article 17 of the DSA, hosting service providers, including online platforms, must provide all affected service users with a clear and specific explanation for any restrictions imposed because the information provided by the user is illegal content or does not adhere to their terms and conditions. These restrictions are: restrictions on the visibility of specific information provided by the service user, restrictions on payment, restrictions on the provision of services and restrictions on user accounts.
The explanation must contain certain information relating to the type of restriction applied, the relevant facts and circumstances, the possible use of automated means, an explanation of the legal or contractual basis, and information on legal remedies.
